Defining the godhead - an open discussion on Unitarianism, Binitarianism and Trinitarianism

“1. The one God. (a) theos is the most frequent designation of God in the NT. Belief in the one, only, and unique God (Matt. 23:9; Rom. 3:30; 1 Cor. 8:4,6; Gal. 3:20; 1 Tim. 2:5; Jas. 2:19) is an established part of Christian tradition. Jesus himself made the fundamental confession of Jud. his own and expressly quoted the Shema (Deut. 6:4-5; see Mk. 12:29-30; cf. Matt. 22:37; Lk. 10:27). This guaranteed continuity between the old and the new covenants. The God whom Christians worship is the God of the fathers (Acts 3:13; 5:30; 22:14), the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Acts 3:13; 7:32; cf. Matt. 22:32; Mk. 12:26; Lk. 20:37), the God of Israel (Matt. 15:31; Lk. 1:68; Acts 13:17), and the God of Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 1:3; Eph. 1:3; 1 Pet. 1:3).”

(New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology, Abridged Edition, p. 244)

The Shema -> the creed of Judaism -> the creed which Jesus, naturally, being himself a pious and observant Jew, confessed and made his own.

The one God of the Shema -> Yahweh.

Yahweh -> the God of the old covenant and the new covenant -> the God whom Christians worship -> the God of the fathers -> the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob -> the God of Israel -> the God of Jesus Christ.

Readers are encouraged to search the scriptures to see if what is said by this source is true.

Test the spirit. Listen to a gnostic speak. A gnostic will contradict these assertions and affirmations made in scripture as part of his or her adamant opposition to Yahweh.

“Yahweh is the devil,” a common gnostic speaking point, is a dead giveaway for those having eyes that see and ears that here.

For a guy who declared to the Forum that he put me on ignore, you sure have a lot to say about things I’ve said. :p

You’ve marginalized yourself and painted yourself into the proverbial corner.

Grow up. Man up. Stop being so prideful and join the conversation. It’s not like we are talking about the moon landing or flat earth. We are specifically talking about some of your beliefs.

Yahweh is the God of the Jews.

“You don’t know what you’re worshiping. We Jews know what we’re worshiping, because slavation comes from the Jews.”

(John 4:22, ISV)

Jesus’ comment in context was made to a Samaritan but would serve as a most apt comment to Gnostics.

Jesus, himself a Jew and a descendent of the fathers, isn’t anti-Jewish. The Messiah isn’t anti-God of the Jews. He is pro-God of the Jews. There is no other God for him to be pro about. Everything else is idolatry. The God of the Jews is his God. Yahweh is the one and only true God.

It is this God, Yahweh, and no other, which Jews and Gentiles alike are brought to by the Messiah.

It is this God, Yahweh, who raised up and sent the Messiah.

Gnostics hate the God whom Jesus the Jew, loves and obeys.

The ultimate authority is Jesus’ God.
What do you make of this?
(what is the name of your God?)

Acts 4:10-12 NIV
then know this, you and all the people of Israel:
It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead,
that this man stands before you healed.
11 Jesus is
“‘the stone you builders rejected,
which has become the cornerstone.’[a]
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven
given to mankind by which we must be saved
.”

IDOLATRY is one of the hardest things to recognize, like pride. This is partly due to the fact that there is worship in practice that one does not state in theory. No one would admit worshipping sex, money or other manmade things.
I think some believers worship doctrine. And even the Bible. Bibliolatry.

In fact, some would let doctrine get in the way of a meaningful relationship with other believers. Pity, that.

Another back door attempt to rationalize what Scripture does not say.

The verses you cite does not provide the name of God but does provide the name of the man God raised from the dead for the purposes of saving mankind.

Do you have reading comprehension issues?

Acts 4:12 NIV
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven
given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

My reading comprehension is outstanding. You are leaving out the part that God raised this man for this purpose.

You want to read into the text that being raised for this purpose makes this man a god - but that is not what the text says.

Evidently, you have reading comprehension issues. :p

Let's try another one.
The Word was God. The Word became flesh and lived among us.
Who was the Word, that was God and lived among us? (Jesus)

John 1:1-3 NRSVue
In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things came into being through him,
and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being ...
And the Word became flesh and lived among us,
and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son,[d]
full of grace and truth.

At least you weren’t snarky about it. ;)

No, he doesn’t have reading comprehension issues.

Go ahead on.

And let’s try another one - the Geneva Bible; considered to be the Bible of the Protestant Reformation.

“In the beginning was that Word, and that Word was with God, and that Word was God, This same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by it, and without it was made nothing that was made. In it was life, and that life was the light of the world. And that life shineth in the wilderness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not.”

Compare with all English translations of the Bible from Greek manuscripts published prior to 1611.

The Word -> it.

Agree or disagree with this early English translation (and the others I mentioned), the idea conveyed is almost certain to strike the reader as being different from what they are accustomed to reading in other translations.
