Ps 121: I will lift up my eyes to the mountains
From whence comes my help?

What is unstated here is that the mountains are terrifying. You can see this in the rest of the psalm. This was a psalm about going up to Jerusalem, and people faced robbers and wild animals getting there.

It is a not a psalm about the panacea of beautiful mountains, to be adobe-ed on photographs of pretty mountains. I recall the most extreme form of this sentiment I ever heard. The person just quoted Jn 3:16 and said God loves the beauty of this world so much that sacrificed His Son for it. ??

‘He leads me beside still waters’
The ultimate meaning is shared, but not an important detail on how to get there. The setting is the toxic water of middle east deserts. You don't want your animals in them, drinking them. So the best translation is actually: 'He leads me past brackish waters.' He is a protector.

I would think he leads us to living water the gospel that can still or soul. A stilling small voice.

1 King 19: 11-13 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
