Dr. Michael Heiser explains the Hebrew word tannı̂yn / tannı̂ym and what it meant to ancient people.
Manuscripts found in the ancient Canaanite city of Ugarit sheds light on the terminology.

Genesis 1 ESV
(21) So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Psalms 74 ESV
(13) You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters.
(14) You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.

A very special creature, to me. ♥️

Canst thou draw out Leviathan with an hook?
or His tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?
Canst thou put an hook into His nose?
or bore His jaw through with a thorn?
Will He make many supplications unto thee?
will He speak soft words unto thee?
Will He make a covenant with thee?
wilt thou take Him for a servant for ever?
Wilt thou play with Him as with a bird?
or wilt thou bind Him for thy maidens?
Shall the companions make a banquet of Him?
shall they part Him among the merchants?
Canst thou fill His skin with barbed iron?
or His head with fish spears?
Lay thine hand upon Him, remember the battle, do no more.

Job 41:1-8

And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake Him;
for He hath no part nor inheritance with thee.

Deuteronomy 14:27

That you ❤️ chaos doesn't surprise me.
He speaks soft words to me.
I play with Him as with a bird.
He made a covenant with me.
He vowed to be my servant forever.

You want to put fish spears in His head? go right ahead.
I laid my hand upon Him. I remember the battle.

😘

Were you hoping to be surprised?
😘

Behold, the hope of Him is in vain:
shall not one be cast down even at the sight of Him?
None is so fierce that dare stir Him up:
who then is able to stand before Me?
Who hath prevented Me, that I should repay him?
whatsoever is under the whole heaven is Mine.
I will not conceal His parts, nor His power, nor His comely proportion.

Job 41:9-12

There seems to be a deep Hebrew fear of the oceans as a location of a large collective monster even from the time of creation. In other words, a view that creation itself was a victory over a dark power that called for land for humans to be separate from that sea, but also for the miraculous power of creation to make the sea teem with living creatures that were innocent of the darkness, and for food for humans later, though not at first.

Not when it comes to those with a religion of Gnosticism.
Who can discover the face of His garment?
or who can come to Him with His double bridle?
Who can open the doors of His face? His teeth are terrible round about.
His scales are His pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
By His neesings a light doth shine, and His eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

Job 41:13-18

And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire:
and them that had gotten the victory over the beast,
and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name,
stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

Thanks, I'll check it out.
I am also familiar with the Mesopotamian concept of Tiamat, the personification of primordial chaos depicted as a sea serpent/dragon that their god Marduk slays.

I think someone blew out your pilot light.
