The title is The Sin In You That Needs To Be Put To Death.
Let us begin in Romans Chapter 6.
Refresher of Romans Chapter 5 - Talks about:
Faith Triumphs In Trouble; Christ In Our Place; Death In Adam, Life In Christ. (Please go back and take a look at these sections before going on through here.)
- Paul continues onward after having stated in Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might right through righteousness of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:20: I believe Paul is referring here to how the Law had entered that offense might abound. Referring to the Law of Moses which most scholars and people agree that there are 613 commandments founded in the Law of Moses alone, and the very first 10 can be found at the starting of Exodus 20:1-26
Paul mentions here in verse 20: The Law entered perhaps introduced that offense might abound. This offense could bring forth an
occasion of stumbling- which would bring a person into understanding their error or sin (missing the mark).
This is why the Law was introduced to allow us to know about our own missing the mark, sin, or error. God allowed Moses to come forth with the Laws which God had commanded upon his first-born nation Israel (Exodus 4:22).
For those in this period of time are found in Deuteronomy 28, for those who obeyed God's decrees, and those who did not obey God's decree, and as rumor has it, not everyone followed in full compliance to these decrees, however Mary and Jospeh when the birth of Jesus was upon them, were found blameless, and without fault having lived the decrees blamelessly.
This is where righteousness is founded in the Lord Jesus Christ, who makes a person right with God when they believe. (Please be encouraged to read Romans 1-5).
Dead to Sin, Alive to God
Rom 6:1 What, then, will we say? Will we continue in sin that grace may abound?
Sin is defined as missing the mark, however it is also described as (A governing principle or power "(the body) of sin," here "sin" is spoken of an organized power, acting through the members of the body, through the seat of "sin" is in the will (the body is the organic instrument).
Paul is addressing this type of sin, here in Romans 6:1, in that, even though Jesus Christ our righteousness, what shall we say then? will we continue in sin that grace may abound?
I could be mistaken here, but Paul is actually addressing that what good is it for us to go on about sinning that grace may abound? What is the sinning relative to? It could be in relation to the Law of Moses - in condemning other people for not having followed it because you yourself make a habit of following it and when others don't you by your own inherit nature of
what you do (by the sin that is) in your flesh- can become prideful, haughty, and look down on other individuals.
Another outlook could be that Paul is also fighting against a strain of thought at that time antinomianism - which basically refers to LAWLESSNESS.
The thought process goes like this "Let's just sin so Gods grace can continue to abound!" - Paul was very much against this type of thinking.
Rom 6:2 Let it not be! We who died to sin—how will we still live in it?
Paul goes on to write, "Let it not be!" - Not to let it be so, that if a person continues sinning - be it by looking to the Law (which is good, holy and just), or by using their own body to be subject to the power of sin (with-them) - be it pride, covetousness, evil thoughts, murders, deceit, lewdness. Even some scriptures say "God forbid!"
Paul goes on to say "We
who diedto sin - how will we still live in it?"
Who died to sin, this could be referring to dying to the sin which is inferred by the Law of Moses - having put it to death in order to allow the righteousness of Christ and the grace of God abound rather than the sin, which is made aware of to you by the Law of Moses to keep from (allowing sin to have more power with-in and instead it become dead with limited to almost no power). Sin continues to reign in our flesh no matter what, it is a choice here to die to it, as Paul says "We - those - who died to sin, how will we still live in it.
We soon will realize in the next few verses what Paul is talking about here.
Rom 6:3 Are you ignorant that we, as many as were immersed into Christ Jesus, were immersed into His death?
Paul states here to the Saints at Rome, Are you ignorant that we, as many as were immersed into Christ Jesus, were immersed into His death?

What is being brought up here is how we are to understand as believers, we are not only Children of God, but now God's temple in which His Holy Spirit now dwells, and it is because of being (bapitzed) immersed into Jesus and his Death. What this means is that you are a person who has become dead to the old fleshly natural ways (though they still exist with-in you) and are to become made alive in the spiritual new ways (by being raised again with Christ).

It is no longer you living by yourself anymore, you have now the Spirit of Christ, and the Holy Spirit from God indwelling you, because you have come to accept the grace and truth found in the Jesus Christ. In which one must die to themselves, and become alive to God which is all by and through faith, and to become dead to sin and sin's power with-in you, whatever that may look like for you personally.
There are things that I deal with-in sometimes that are sinful, however it is my choice to entertain that power with-in me, or to die to it, and the only best way to die to it, is whenever that power comes up with-in you, is to pray, seek guidance and help from the Almighty God.
Rom 6:4 We were buried together, then, with Him through the immersion into death, that even as Christ was raised up out of the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
Paul makes it very clear, it this is basically like a marriage ceremony being buried together, then, with Jesus, (becoming one together) through the immersion into death (
dying to our own will, our own old former life and ways that sin use to run amuck within our members (our body)). That even as Christ was raised up from out of the dead through the glory of the Father.
So also are we who are of faith and believers - might walk in newness of life which is much different than the former old man/woman and it's life that it had by and through the control of the power of sin that reigns with-in us, once having become aware of our sinful status, and our need for the Righteousness founded in Christ that makes a person right before God by faith, and by faith alone only is this found which is a gift of God when you had believed.
Rom 6:5 For if we have become planted together to the likeness of His death, [
so] we also will be of the resurrection;
Just as the seed planted in the dirt is covered up and the seed inside of the dirt is secured: You and the Lord Jesus Christ, also become planted together to the likeness of His death, which is the death of our old former life, and - also we will be of the resurrection; being born from above or being born again by the Spirit to be able to walk in the newness of life that God desires for all people to have now and experience a life with God in it, and not a life without God in it.
